Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid for a record transfer fee of £60 million last summer, to fill the sizable boots of Diego Costa who left them to join his former club Atletico Madrid.
Despite a dazzling start in England, with eight goals in his first seven games, the Spaniard struggled to find his feet in the Premier League last season. He also struggled with a mysterious back injury which kept him sidelined for a long period.
The Spain International just scored 15 goals 47 appearances in all competitions during the 2017-18 campaign, with 11 of them coming in the Premier League. He even missed out on Spain’s World Cup squad after his underwhelming debut season in the Premier League.
The 25 year old’s future was uncertain throughout the summer and was heavily linked with an exit. However, the club wanted him to stay and even new manager Maurizio Sarri has backed him to find his form.
He scored against Arsenal last weekend after scoring just once in the last 16 Premier League games as the Blues won 3-2.
Morata has revealed that he has set himself an ambitious target of 30 goals this season and is also targeting silverware.
He said as quoted by The Sun: “I’m very happy because it was three very important points against Arsenal.
“The last year was very hard for me, not just with confidence.
“The injury [last season] was very bad for me and my head, but when the ball goes into the net everything changes.
“Your mind isn’t blocked anymore and I hope now I can score a lot of goals.
“For sure I want to score more than 30 goals, but I would prefer to score 15 or 20 and for us to win the Premier League or another big trophy.
“I want to score many goals but the most important thing is the team.”
The Forward went on to say he thinks Chelsea, on their day, are one of the best in the world, adding: “I think we play good football when we have the ball.
“We need to improve on small things but it’s only been one month since we’ve all been together with the manager.
“I think if we continue like this we can play against any team in the world.”
