Roma's sporting director provide updates about Chelsea target

The player has been heavily linked with a summer exit

Chelsea are expected to overhaul their side this summer after an underwhelming Premier League and Champions League campaign last season. They finished 5th in the league and will miss the Champions League in the upcoming season.

One of the unexpected areas they might have to strengthen is between the sticks as Thibaut Courtois continues to link with a summer exit.

He returned to the club from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014 after he enjoyed 3 successful seasons on loan in Spain. Since then he has been the mainstay at the club and has developed himself as one of the best Goalkeepers in the world.

But the 25 year old has been stalling on signing a contract extension at Stamford Bridge for a past couple of months and could leave on a free transfer next year when his contract expires.

The Blues are keen to keep him but are willing to sell him this summer rather than to let him leave on a free transfer at the end of the next season. They will want close to ÂŁ50 million for him.

They have been heavily linked with a move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker. They eye him as a replacement for Courtois if he decides to leave.

The Brazilian joined Giallorossi from Inter Milan in the summer of 2016, signing a 5 year contract. He  spent the majority of that season as understudy to Polish international Wojciech Szczęsny, managing to make only 15 appearances in all competitions.

It has been a meteoric rise for him who did not play a single game in Serie A in the 2016-2017 campaign before taking over as the undisputed No.1 last term.

The 25 year old was very impressive for the club domestically and in Europe, keeping 22 clean sheets in 49 games for the club in all competitions. He also reached helped them to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

Liverpool and Real Madrid have also shown interest in him this summer. But the clubs are yet to reach an agreement with the Italian club, who are unwilling to sell him.

Roma’s sporting director provided updates about the goalkeeper.

“There is no change on Alisson, I imagine that all the teams that are coming out of the press are looking for goalkeepers and he is strong, but after that I can not say more,” Monchi said as quoted by Calciomercato.

“We always evaluate what comes for the club’s good. I’m not talking about substitutes because I think Alisson will stay here. We’ll think about it if the time comes to sell it. Reading the press when I get out of here I will have offers from all over the world, maybe even from the Germans.”
