The Italian side are unsure if he will stay beyond this summer
Chelsea are expected to overhaul their side this summer after an underwhelming campaign last season. They finished 5th in the league and will miss the Champions League in the upcoming season.
They have been behind in the transfer window compared to other Premier League rivals as they are still yet to clarify their managerial situation. Antonio Conte remains the head coach despite being heavily linked with a summer exit.
The Italian has been linked with an exit for quite some now after a decline in club’s performances during the last campaign. The coach’s future has been under scrutiny since before the season began, as he negotiated a pay-rise without extending his contract and complaints over the club’s transfer policy.
But the club feel confident that they will land former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri and want to provide him with new additions. They have accelerated their transfer plans this week after direct talks with the 59 year old.
The Blues wants to sign a new full-back and have been monitoring Roma ace Alessandro Florenzi. Last summer signing Davide Zappacosta has struggled to make an impact and the club wants a new wing-back to compete with Victor Moses.
The Italy International came through the ranks of the Italian side and made his Serie A debut in 2011 before joining Crotone on a loan deal in order to get more first team football.
The 27 year old returned back to his Parent club in the following season and since then has been a mainstay in the right side of the defense. He has been very consistent for the club and established himself as one of the best right-backs in the league.
He was a regular for Serie A giants last season, making 42 appearances in all competitions and helped his team to reach the Semi-finals of the Champions League.
But the defender has encountered has encountered problems in negotiations over a new contract. He just has 12 months left in his contract but yet to sign a new contract as he wants €4 million per year to remain at the Olimpico, which the club does not want to pay.
Roma sporting director Monchi insists Florenzi has not been issued with an ultimatum but is not sure whether he will stay beyond this summer.
“We have not moved forward much. It’s a difficult negotiation because he is a great player,” Monchi told reporters as quoted by Goal.
“I think that Roma have made a strong offer to him, a very good offer, but I understand that he too has his thoughts and requests. I am confident, but not much has changed in the last few days.
“There will never be an ultimatum, Alessandro is a son of this club. What will happen will happen, I am fighting every day to get the renewal done and I have faith. But we are still a little apart.”
