Chelsea plotting a late swoop for Napoli star

The player could follow Maurizio Sarri to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are expected to overhaul their side this summer after an underwhelming campaign last season. They finished 5th in the league and will miss the Champions League in the upcoming season.

Though Blues ended the campaign on a bright note after defeating Manchester United in the FA Cup final. But they need reinforcements in key areas to compete for Silverware in the upcoming season.

They have been behind in the transfer window compared to other Premier League rivals as they are still yet to clarify their managerial situation. Antonio Conte remains the head coach despite being heavily linked with a summer exit.

The Italian has been linked with an exit for quite some now after a decline in club’s performances during the last campaign. The coach’s future has been under scrutiny since before the season began, as he negotiated a pay-rise without extending his contract and complaints over the club’s transfer policy.

But the club feel confident that they will land former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri and want to provide him with new additions. They have accelerated their transfer plans this week after direct talks with the 59 year old.

Chelsea are ready to snatch Napoli midfielder Jorginho from under the nose of Manchester City, according to SportItalia .

The Italy International joined the Serie A giants from Hellas Verona in 2013 and has been a mainstay in the midfield since then. He has constantly performed at the highest level and developed himself as one of the best midfielders in the league.

The 26 year old was pivotal for the Italian side last term, linking the play between defense and attack. He scored 2 goals and assisted 4 in all the competitions.

He is expected to leave Stadio San Paolo in the coming weeks after being omitted from the pre-season training. The club have also signed Fabian Luiz as his replacement.

Per Guardiola’s side were expected to complete the signing of the Italian midfielder before the World Cup but the deal is yet to finalised. Partenopei wants £48 million and are refusing to budge on that valuation.

The Blues are planning for a late swoop and could offer £53 million for the player. It is believed the improved offer would also sway them into releasing Sarri, allowing the manager and the player to link up once again at Stamford Bridge.
