He has been heavily linked with a summer exit
Thibaut Courtois returned to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014 after he enjoyed 3 successful seasons on loan in Spain. Since then he has been the mainstay between the sticks and has established himself as one of the best Goalkeepers in the world.
The Belgian is considered as one of the most important members of the Blues and has already won 2 Premier League, 1 FA Cup and 1 League club with the club. He made 46 appearances for the club last season but missed out on Champions League qualification.
But the 25 year old has been stalling on signing a contract extension at Stamford Bridge for a past couple of months and could leave on a free transfer next year when his contract expires. He has seemingly joined a number of first-team players whose futures are also shrouded in doubt.
Transfer talk has been building around the Belgium international for some time and has been heavily linked with a summer move to Real Madrid. They are stepping up their interest as they want a long term replacement for Keylor Navas and it is believed they will make a move for him after the World Cup.
He has also admitted that he hopes to move to Madrid some day as his two Children lives there.
Courtois had admitted that he has a preference regarding his future but refused to rule out anything right now. He told Sporza when quizzed on his future: “I have a certain preference, I already have ideas in my head, but I have moved everything until after the World Cup.
“What is most important is my children. My daughter is three years old, my son is a year old, and I have not seen them for a year-and-a-half.
“FaceTime is beautiful, but seeing them grow up is something else.
“So my children will play an important role in my decision.
“Do I want to go to Madrid? I do not know we’ll see. I still have a choice to make.”
Chelsea are keen to keep hold of their goalkeeper but if fresh terms are not agreed they are willing to sell him this summer rather than to let him leave on a free transfer next year.
