Chelsea star will consider his long term future after the World Cup

Michy Batshuayi is hoping to get selected in the 23 man squad for Belgium

Michy Batshuayi joined Chelsea for a reported fee of €40 million, signing a 5 year contract in 2016 and was the first signing under Antonio Conte.

Batshuayi failed to established himself as a regular and was behind Diego Costa in the pecking order. Despite coming as a substitute most of the time, the striker often showed glimpses of his potential talent.

Alvaro Morata was signed by the Blue’s last summer to replace Diego Costa and the Belgian again struggled for regular game time. He joined Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer in order to get more first team football.

The 24 year old made an instant impact for the German Club, scoring 7 goals in 10 appearances. But he injured his ankle in the 2-0 Bundesliga loss to Schalke on April 15 and missed the remainder of 2017-18.

Batshuayi will return to Chelsea after World Cup but his future is still uncertain. He has been tipped to stay at Stamford Bridge as Antonio Conte is leave the club this summer. Even Dortmund have expressed their desire to sign him on a permanent transfer.

But the Belgian International has admitted that he is concentrating on earning a place in Belgium’s final World Cup squad and will consider his long term future with the Premier League giants or BVB after the World Cup.

“Dortmund was a great experience for me,” he told a news conference as quoted by Goal. “They welcomed me very warmly. I was in a good environment and you could see that on the pitch.

“It was a while since I had played so much. I can’t remember being allowed to play two games in a row at Chelsea. It was good to gain confidence.

“I don’t have a preference; they’re two beautiful clubs. My focus is on the World Cup right now and I don’t want to think about what happens afterwards.”

It was initially feared former Marseille star will miss the World Cup due to his injury but he has recovered early and has been training. He has been selected in the 28 man provisional squad and is determined to be selected in the final 23 man squad.
