Chelsea preparing a £31 million bid for Benjamin Henrichs

Conte wants him to compete with Victor Moses

After a disappointing Premier League campaign this season, Chelsea are likely to bolster their side in key areas during the summer transfer window. Their priority is to add defensive reinforcements, the area where they particularly struggled this season.

Antonio Conte is still heavily involved in trying to bring new players this summer despite the uncertainty over his future. He claimed this season that his side was not strong enough to cope with the added demands.

Chelsea are preparing a summer swoop for Bayer Leverkusen full-back Benjamin Henrichs, according to The Sun . He is rated as one of the best young defender in the world.

The 21 year old has been with Leverkusen since he was eight and has made 74 appearances for the club, since he made his debut back in 2015. Primarily a right-back, he can also play on the left side of defense. He has also won three caps for German senior side.

The defender signed a new 2 year contract extension with the club last summer which will keep him at the club until 2022. But the deal has a £31 million release clause.

Chelsea are ready to pay his release clause and wants to bring him this summer. Conte signed Emerson Palmieri in January as cover and competition for left wing-back Marcos Alonso and now wants the German to do the  same with Victor Moses on the right.

Manchester United and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on him.
