Michy Batshuayi in danger of missing World Cup

Batshuayi suspected of ankle break

Borussia Dortmund’s Michy Batshuayi is in the danger of missing the rest of the season after suffering a horrific injury during the match against Schalke.

It was an important game for Dortmund, as they want to make sure they finish in the top 4. But they were trailing 2-0 and the game was in the stoppage time, when the accident occurred.

Batshuayi appeared to roll his left ankle following a challenge from Schalke’s Benjamin Stambouli, before being stretchered off deep into added time as Dortmund finished the contest with ten men.

The Belgium international reportedly left the Veltins Arena on crutches. He has been admitted to the hospital for scans on a suspected ankle break.

We hope it’s not too serious, but we’ll have to wait for an exact diagnosis,” said Dortmund coach Peter Stöger after the game.

The news and prospect of a potential lay-off  comes as a hammer blow to club, country and player alike.

Dortmund who are pushing for a top 4 finish, could struggle without the service of the forward as he has been in great form for them recently.

Batshuayi who is keen to prove his quality as a striker, could not only miss rest of the season but also in risk of missing the World Cup in Russia this summer. It could also hamper his chances of rejoining Chelsea next season.

Batshuayi has been a revelation since moving to Dortmund on a six-month loan from English Premier League club Chelsea in February, scoring 7 goals in 10 Bundesliga appearances.
