A new manager and a new team! Frank Lampard revolutionised Chelsea’s team make up by bringing in young players from the Chelsea academy itself. Players like Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Callum-Hudson-Odoi, among others, were brought into the team and given a chance to play. This happened because in the past, Chelsea has been riddled with bad luck when it comes to retaining their academy players. World-class players like Kevin de Bruyne and Mohamed Salah were not given a chance to play at Chelsea, and so they left – becoming bigger stars than ever. Thankfully, the fate was not the same for Mason Mount – his timing was just right! Today, Mason Mount is rapidly becoming one of Chelsea’s most important players, alongside his young teammates.

4. Mason Mount Impressed At Vitesse, So Much That He Was Called To Play In The National Team

England national team manager Gareth Southgate was so impressed with Mount that he called him to train with the senior team for a week, before the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Mount made his debut play for the England national team at the 67th minute as a substitute. He was again put in the team in October 2018 for the UEFA Nations League games, where he played against Croatia and Spain.

When Mason Mount arrived at Derby County’s first training session, his teammates were rather taken aback by his skills.

“The first training with us left the players thinking: ‘Wow, who is this guy?!,” said Shay Given, the Derby County Coach.

“We knew about him as a young prospect at Chelsea who had done well in Holland [on loan at Vitesse], but it is not until he is actually on the training ground that you really see what kind of player he is.

“He was some player for us. His finishing, power, pace and work rate was great. Of course, he has played so many games this season for Chelsea and he was one of our best players at Derby.

“Even at Derby, they thought what a player he is going to be from the first training session and he went on from there.”

He excelled greatly at Derby County!
