Should Sadio Mane have been sent off?

Manchester City were already leading Liverpool 1-0 when Sadio Mane was sent off on Saturday.

Despite the fact that City looked likely to score more goals at 11 v 11, there is little doubt that Mane’s red card had a huge impact on the rest of the Premier League fixture.

Manchester City went onto win 5-0 thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus (2) and Leroy Sane (2).

It was one of the best performances of Pep Guardiola’s reign as Manchester City manager. Amongst the worst Jurgen Klopp has presided over at Liverpool.

Sadio Mane set for three-game ban

Yet, the debate over the Sadio Mane red card looks set to linger on for some time.

For Mane, there is not much debate. Referee Jon Moss sent him off with a straight red card and a three-game ban is now in place.

The Liverpool attacker will miss Burnley at home next Saturday, then two matches versus Leicester – both away – the first in the Carabao Cup. And, the second in the Premier League.
